When it comes to purchasing a new laptop, there are countless options on the
market. As someone who has been a loyal Apple user for years, the decision to
buy a new MacBook was an easy one. In 2023, I plan to purchase a MacBook M1 for
my wife’s birthday, and I have several reasons why this is the best choice for
us.
Firstly, my wife’s current MacBook Pro with retina display (2012) has served
her well for over a decade. It has been through numerous travels and is still
functionally sound. However, the mag-safe chargers life have only lasted 2-3
years at a time, and we have gone through countless chargers. By upgrading to a
new MacBook with better battery life, we can hopefully avoid the constant
replacement of chargers and make the most out of its long-term use. Also, more
aftermarket charges will be available, with much cheaper interchangeable cords!
Moreover, MacBooks are known for their excellent screens and high build
quality, which is an important factor when purchasing a new laptop. The small
and portable design also makes it easy to take with us on the go, whether it’s
for travel or remote work. I noticed that screens really make a difference in usability
of a laptop. Not bright or clear enough, and they can no longer be used to
watch TV shows or movies. Text also becomes harder to read in certain
conditions, and when using laptops on-the-go or even in the bedroom,
unfavourable lighting conditions are common.
The M1 chip is a groundbreaking piece of technology designed by Apple. I
feel like giving them my money is the right thing to do, if only to encourage
innovation and more competition in this space. It has taken the laptop’s
performance to the next level. One of the most impressive features of the M1
chip is its performance per watt. It can handle intensive workloads with
remarkable speed and efficiency while consuming very little power. This results
in longer battery life and less heat generated by the device.
The M1 chip also has exceptional video encoding and decoding capabilities.
It can handle multiple streams of 4K video playback with ease, making it ideal
for anyone who enjoys video editing or streaming content. Additionally, the
M1’s GPU offers good performance for light gaming, making it a suitable choice
for casual gamers.
Another advantage of Macbooks chip is its ability to use side-car with an
iPad for additional screen real-estate. This feature allows you to use your
iPad as a second display for your MacBook, making it perfect for multitasking
and increasing productivity. This feature is especially helpful for creative
professionals who require additional screen space for editing photos and
videos.
The M1 MacBook offers a high-speed SSD performance, giving it a significant
advantage over the base model M2. The speedy SSD ensures that the MacBook
operates smoothly and efficiently, allowing for faster app launches and data
transfers. Although there might not be a noticeable difference in performance,
the idea of compromising while paying more money presents a mental hurdle for
me. It’s particularly frustrating that Apple has increased the price of both
their laptops (M1 and M2) in recent weeks. However, by purchasing the M1, I can
save money that could go towards replacing it with a future model, such as the
M3 or M4, in a few years’ time. For our specific use case, the base model with
8 GB of RAM offers more than enough performance for web browsing and online
shopping. When my wife works from home and connects to the office via remote
desktop, the laptop’s performance is not a crucial factor.
In conclusion, there are several reasons why we have decided to purchase the
MacBook M1 in 2023. Its excellent battery life, USB-C charging port, and high
build quality are just a few of the reasons why we believe it’s the best choice
for our needs. With the money saved by purchasing the M1 over the M2, we can
